Sunshine, Lollipops, And Sunflowers

Just a quick little rewrite of that old song... Because sunshine and sunflowers are everywhere here in DC! (Lollipops? I'm not sure about that one, but let's roll with it.)

Please enjoy the music while viewing a few select pictures on this happy Canada Day, which is exactly two months after International Sunflower Guerrilla Gardening Day. Coincidence? I think not!

This picture was actually taken maybe a month ago. I was jealous of the size of the naturtium leaves, but it was the little sunflowers that attracted me over to this bed. There will be more photos of this planter in an upcoming "Edible DC" post, but the sunflowers haven't bloomed yet, so you're not missing anything.

Huh, yeah, so Dupont Circle sunflowers are allowed to survive... I'm still a bit bitter about my guerrilla gardening sunflowers being desecrated. None are left except a few tiny ones amidst the weeds in the northernmost point of the street.

This sunflower is near the ones in the previous picture. That's not the sun, it's a streetlight; but it still is light-shining-through-something, and I love those shots!

Mr. Yogato garden! The sunflowers started blooming just a few days ago--I am eagerly awaiting more!

"Nnnrrhnnn... Just gimme five more minutes, mom. It's Saturday!" So says Bed-head Sunflower of the Morning.

I enjoyed the layering of this shot, and I am so excited for the other bloom to open.

I play favourites. This one is my favourite.

  1. Mine too!

So funny: the capital being overrun with sunflowers. I love it.

Soon the shop's customers will need a machete to battle through the undergrowth in order to get inside :-)

  2. What a beautiful sunflower, I haven't tried planting one in my place. Im sure a lot of birds and little animals may come and pick the flowerhead for seeds when it dries up.
